Abundant Grace （豊かな恩恵）

　2008年8月からJICAの活動にかかわっている。日本人と働くことはとても興味深い。アジア人と働くのは、これが初めてだ。

　私は説明責任や確実性、安全体制などについての考え方が好きだ。活動を通じて、これまでに「指揮系統」「開発途上国の中央政府の要請に応じる支援機関」「同じ目的を掲げた、ドナーや二国間機関の異なるプロジェクト」など多くの国際協力にかかわってきた。

　リベリアと先進国間の国際協力を通じ、戦後復興の需要が高まっている。リベリアの人々はとても長い間、このような協力を待ち望んでいた。国際協力の合意に加え、成長や発展の可能性とリベリア改善のための基礎が次世代のために築かれつつある。

　地球温暖化により、自然そのものが環境に影響を与えるようになっている。例えば、農耕期の生産力が、環境が変化したことにより、低下している。リベリアの雨季はこれまで4月から10月までだったが、今年は6月から雨が降り始めた。

　西アフリカの47パーセントの森林がリベリアに集中している。地球温暖化の影響で豪雨が降るようになってからは、一部の都市の住民が洪水や海岸侵食の影響を受けるようになった。

　国際的なコミュニティの支援を通じて、私たちリベリア人は今日、平和と調和のもとで暮らしている。戦争は酷いものだった。何千もの人々の命が失われ、財産も破壊された。
　これは、二度と内戦を起こしてはならないという、明確な警告だ。戦争で荒廃したリベリアを他の新興国のレベルまで引き上げようと、国際社会は「保健と保健関連の課題」「グッドガバナンス（良い統治）」「能力強化のための公共機関再建」「貧困削減のための戦略」の分野で支援を実施しており、その意欲はとても興味深いものがある。

　自国の状況について文章を書いていると、勇気が湧いてくる。多くの人々が平和は恒常的なものであると考える一方で、一部の人々にとって、それは壊れやすいものだ。

　日本などの多くの国々は、人々の生活水準を上げるために援助を行っている。瓦礫となった壁が再建され、法のルールが遵守され、首都において在外公館が認知され、これからもっと多くのよいことが始まる。豊かさの中に恩恵がある。大統領選挙と議会選挙実施まであと2年だが、私たちはみな、この前向きな変化がこれからも続くことを心から願っている。

Since August 2008, I got involved with JICA's activities and it is quite interesting working with Japanese. Frankly, this is my first experience with Asians.

I love the accountability, the accuracy and security measures.
My activities expose me to many international cooperative procedures;
•the chain of command
•donor agencies response to request from central governments of developing countries
•different projects by donors and bilateral agencies, but common goal
Through international cooperation between my country and other developed countries, our post war recovery needs are gaining momentum. For far too long, we as Liberians have longed for such an immediate cooperation. In addition to the international cooperation agreements, capacity is being developed for the future generation and sitting the basis for a better Liberia.

Because of global warming, nature has had its own impact on the environment. For example, the farming season in my country is affected by low productivity.
The rain which last for six months in Liberia starts in April to October. Unfortunately this year, it started in June.

Liberia my homeland has about 47 % of the forest in West Africa. Due to the heavy down pour of rain as a result of the global warning, floods and sea erosion affect residents in some parts of the city.

Through the help of the international community, today we (Liberians) are living in peace and harmony. The war was terrible. Thousands of lives were lost and properties destroyed.
This has sent out a clear signal never to fight among ourselves. What is more interesting is the willingness of the international community to assist our war torn country (Liberia) to meet up standards of other developing countries in the areas of;
a. health and health related issues
b. good governance
c. rebuild the institutions for capacity building
d. and above all support for the PRS (Poverty Reduction Strategy)

I feel very much encourage to write about the situation in my country. For some, the peace we enjoy is fragile; while most of us do believe that peace is here to stay. Many Countries including Japan have come to our aid to improve the living standards of the people living in rural and urban areas. Our broken walls are being rebuilt, the rule of law respected, diplomatic missions are being accredited to the capital and lot more good things are on course. I am excited to say, "Grace is in abundance". With nearly two years before presidential and parliamentary elections, all hopes are high for a continuous positive change.
